Q1 2022 – Investments in fermentation technologies

In 2021, approximately $1.7 Billion USD was invested into Fermentation companies worldwide. In the first quarter (Q1) of 2022, there have been 20 investments into fermentation companies across 12 countries totalling over $500M USD:

1. MycoWorks, a precision fermentation leather start-up based in the United States, raised $125 million in a Series C investment round in January 2022. Investors include Prime Movers Lab (lead investor), SK Networks, Mirabaud, DCVC Bio & Novo Holdings.
2. ReMilk, an Israeli precision fermentation milk company raised $120 million in a Series B investment round in January 2022. Investors include Hanaco Ventures (lead investor), Rage Capital, CPT Capital, Precision Capital Advisors, Intercap, OurCrowd, Aliya Capital, Chartered Group, Indorama Ventures, Tal Ventures, fresh.fund, Idan and Gil Ofer, Izaki Ventures, Paradigm Shift Fund, Tnuva and Hochland.
3. MycoTechnology, a traditional fermentation ingredient company based in the United States, raised $85 million in a Series E investment round in March 2022. Investors include Oman Investment Authority (lead investor), S2G Ventures, Siddhi Capital, Tyson Ventures, Rage Capital, Nourish Ventures, Maple Leaf Foods, Gaingels, Evolution VC Partners, Continental Grain Company, Bunge Ventures and Alphacy Investment.
4. Zero Acre Farms, a precision fermentation oil company based in the United States, raised $37 million in a Series A investment round in February 2022. Investors include Lowercarbon Capital (Lead Investor), Fifty Years (Lead Investor), FootPrint Coalition, Virgin Group, S2G Ventures, Habitat Partners, Collaborative Fund, Coldplay, Andrew Weil, Richard Branson and Dan Barber.
5. Mycorena, a Swedish biomass fermentation meat and fish company, raised $26.8 Million in a Series A funding round in March 2022. Investors are undisclosed.
6. Better Dairy, a precision fermentation dairy company from the United Kingdom, raised $22 million in a Series A funding round in February 2022. Investors included lead Investors Vorwerk Ventures, Redalpine & Happiness Capital. Other investors include Stray Dog Capital, Manta Ray Ventures & Acequia Capital.

7. Change Foods, a precision fermentation cheese company from the United States, raised $12.1 million in a Seed funding round in February 2022. Investors include Route 66 Ventures (lead investor), with participation from Upfield, Blue Horizon, Better Bite Ventures, Giant Leap Fund, Delta Asset Management, JIA Ventures, Green Generation Fund, Orkla, Cult Food Science, Clear Current Capital, Sigma, Jeff Dean and Chris Smalling.
8. Solar Foods, a precision fermentation company based in Finland, raised $11.3 million in an investment round in February 2022. Investors include Pharmacy Pension Fund.
9. Onego Bio, a precision fermentation egg company based in Finland, raised $11.1 million in a Seed investment round in February 2022. Investors include Agronomics and Maki.vc.
10. Wild Earth, a traditional fermentation pet food company based in the United States, raised $10 million from Espresso Capital in a Debt Financing investment round in February 2022. Investors include L Catterton (Lead investor), Leonardo DiCaprio, Cargill, S2G Ventures, FootPrint Coalition, Bezos Expeditions, Temasek Holdings, CRV and Spark Capital.
11. Arkeon, a precision fermentation company from Austria, raised $7 million in a Seed funding round in March 2022. Investors include Blue Horizon Ventures, Square One Foods, Synthesis Capital and ReGen Ventures.
12. MeliBio, a precision fermentation honey company based in the United States, raised $5.7 Million in a Seed funding round in March 2022. Investors include Astanor Ventures (lead investor), Veg Capital, Glass Wall Syndicate, Big Idea Ventures, XRC Labs, Skyview Capital, Siddhi Capital, Midnight Venture Partners, Kingfisher Capital, Collaborative Fund, Alumni Ventures and 18.ventures.
13. Polybion, a Mexican precision fermentation leather company, raised $4.4 million in a Series A investment round in March 2022. Investors include Blue Horizon Ventures (lead investor).
14. Yali Bio, a precision fermentation fat company based in the United States, raised $3.9 million in a Seed investment round in February 2022. Investors include Essential Capital (Lead Investor), S2G Ventures, FTW Ventures, First In Ventures, CRCM Ventures, Third Kind Venture Capital, John Goldsmith and Stephanie Sher.
15. Libre Foods, a Spanish biomass fermentation whole cut meat company, raised $2.5 Million in a Seed funding round in February 2022. Investors include Green Generation Fund (lead investor), Good Seed Ventures, Veg Capital, ProVeg International, Ritu Bansal-Mutalik, David Brandes, Arman Anatürk and Arturo Elizondo.

16. Keen 4 Greens, a German precision fermentation meat company, raised $2 Million in a Seed funding round in February 2022. Investors include Sustainable Food Ventures, Shio Capital, FoodLabs, better ventures, Dennis Aogo and Arman Anatürk.
17. Daisy Lab, a precision fermentation dairy company from New Zealand, raised $0.25 million in a Seed funding round in February 2022. Investors include K1W1, Icehouse Ventures, Sustainable Food Ventures and Outset Ventures.
18. All G Foods, a precision fermentation dairy company (also producing plant-based beef products) based in Australia, raised an undisclosed amount from W23 in a funding round in February 2022. 
19. Bond Pet Foods, a precision fermentation pet food company from the United States, raised an undisclosed amount in a Seed funding round in February 2022. Investors include Sia Furler.
20. De Novo Dairy, a South African precision fermentation milk company, raised an undisclosed amount in a Seed funding round in March 2022. Investors include CULT Food Science.
